Your word is your honour

Matthew 5:37 - Let your Yes be simply Yes, and your No be simply No; anything more than that comes from the evil one.

Have you ever been disappointed by someone who said they were going to do something or be somewhere and then they didn’t do it or show up?

The Bible says that our word should be our word. Our yes our yes and our no our no. We shouldn’t have to promise or ‘swear’… people should be able to simply take our word for something.

Does your word mean something? When you make plans with someone or commit to something… do you keep your word? Or do you change your mind when you don’t feel like it anymore or when better plans come along?

Let’s make sure that people can trust our word and let us not to do other what we don’t want them to do to us.

Father God, help us to think before we commit and to not make decision or commitments too hastily. Remind us to consult with You first, to know You in every decision so that we will only commit to and go where You lead us. Amen
