This week in our life group we looked and discussed a sermon on self control, a fruit of the spirit.
Like he said in the sermon, the word self control can be very misleading, as if it is something we have to do or be able to do on our own (self). It is a fruit of the SPIRIT which means that we can’t do it on our own. If we could have exercised self control when it comes to eating, exercising, relationships, speaking – whatever it may be, then we would’ve. BUT we can’t, which means we don’t have self control on our own. Maybe we can do it on our own in a certain area, but not as a lifestyle, not in every area.
A better way to look at the word “self control” (and this really changed my understanding about it) is that you yourSELF choose who/what will CONTROL you. Self control is the opportunity to choose if sin or the Spirit is going to control you.
Each day there is a fight for our life, our purpose, our destiny, and EACH morning we have a choice if we are going to let sin or the Spirit control us that day.
Get up each morning and choose and declare, “I am going to be led by the Spirit today” and ask the Holy Spirit to help you, so that you can live the life God has called you for. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your life, each day, each moment.
