What does it mean to praise God, to worship Him? When we listen to Gospel music, or as we also call it “Praise & Worship music”, do we actually praise & worship God through it?
I’ve recently been made attentive to the fact that most of the songs we know as worship music, doesn’t bring honour to God. The focus isn’t on Him, it’s actually on us.
Go to your playlist and play the last 5 songs, or your favourite 5 songs. Who or what is the focus? It’s mostly us, or sometimes it’s our struggles or fears.
Then, find 5 songs that actually uplift God, that praise His name and that bring honour to Him… it’s not that easy.
We should really be more aware of the music we listen to. Let’s listen more attentively and ask for more discernment, and let’s find songs that truly worships God. He is more than amazing and He deserves to be praised, His name should be lifted high – and only His name.
I’m not saying that we shouldn’t listen to other songs, I’m just saying that we should be aware of what we are listening to (and singing). Just because it is a Gospel song, doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a song we need to listen to or declare – that is why we need discernment. What I’m actually trying to highlight is that we should make sure that we take time to worship & praise His name. Let’s just be more aware of the songs we sing/ listen to.
